<div itemprop="description">Ruby was the third child born to John and Jennie (nee Preston) O'Rourke of Hodgeville, SK. After graduation, Ruby took a business course in Regina before moving to Fort William, ON where she worked in a defense plant. There she met and married Frank Wood in August, 1945. The couple moved to British Columbia in 1948, where they worked until retiring in 1972. On their River Road farm, they lovingly cared for the animals, a shared passion, and welcomed a number of nieces and nephews who came to visit. After Frank's passing, Ruby lived independently until 2010. Following a brief stay at Waterford in Tsawwassen, Ruby moved to West Shore Laylum where she felt well cared for and in the heart of her cherished community of Ladner. Aunt Ruby had a deep love of children. She zeroed in on positive qualities of each of her nephews and nieces, giving some nicknames (The Boss, Little Miss Two Fingers) or remarking on their particular attributes. She remained an avid conversationalist and storyteller to the end, interested and interesting. Always ready to engage in spirited conversation about social issues and current events, she made a lasting impression on all she met with her bright mind and forthright manner. Ruby was predeceased by her loving husband, Frank, on March 3, 1991, her parents, John (1974) and Jennie (1980) O'Rourke, her siblings Victoria Idell (1988), Robert (1994), Preston (1995), Douglas (2008), and nephews, James David O'Rourke (2008) and Bruce O'Rourke (2011). She is survived by her brother, Lionel, of Santa Clarita, CA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews spanning three generations and two countries. Ruby died peacefully at her home in West Shore Laylum on June 5. Ruby did not want a Funeral Service; instead, friends and family are invited to an informal tea at Delta Funeral Home, 5329 Ladner Trunk Road, Saturday, June 11th, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the SPCA or Delta Hospital Foundation.</div>
