VALLANCE, James (Jim) Dauphine
1913 – 2014

With sadness, but with celebration of a life long lived, we announce the passing of James on December 19, 2014 at Crescent Gardens Retirement Residence, White Rock, BC, where he had resided for the past eight years.

Jim was born in New Westminster on May 8, 1913 to James and Emily Vallance. He was predeceased in 1922 by his father as a result of an industrial accident, his mother and stepfather, Emily and Thomas Raisbeck, his brother Victor (Rae), his sister Juanita (Rob) Matthews, and his wife of 70 years, Dorothy, in September, 2009.

Jim will be fondly remembered by his two sons, Jim (Margaret) of Vernon, Craig (Evelyn) of Edmonton, and daughter, Shelby (Bill) Jennison of Ottawa, eight grandchildren; Nelson (Crystal), Jeffrey (Bernette), and Adam (Laurie); Michael (Maria) and Kevin; Tiffany (Ross) Fraser, Tamara Gibb and Ashley Dullemond; fourteen great-grandchildren; Jordan and Amanda, Jacob and Garrett, Ella and Caleb; Trinity and Hannah, Jade, Ty, Tristan and Pearce; Avery and Sage and niece, Joan (Raymond) Murphy.

Jim married Dorothy Margaret Wadsworth on March 14, 1939. Their first house was on 6th Avenue in New Westminster. They soon moved to Walker Street in Coquitlam, which was home for the next thirty-three years. From their one and a half acres, they created both a beautiful park-like setting and a prolific vegetable garden. Dad loved his vegetable garden, growing great crops every year – much to the chagrin of our mother as she was expected to process everything he grew. He truly had a green thumb. After retirement, Dad and Mom moved to Maple Ridge, Kamloops, back to Coquitlam and finally to Crescent Gardens in White Rock.

Jim lived a very active life. He worked for Crown Zellerbach (Fraser Mills) Lumber Company for 38 years. He raised a family, served on Coquitlam Council for six terms, on the Board of Trustees of the former Saint Mary’s Hospital in New Westminster, and represented Coquitlam Council on Coquitlam Board of Trade. This afforded Jim many fond memories and recollections. He enjoyed it all and gave of himself generously. He always demonstrated, in his own way, his sincerity, love and devotion for the well-being and betterment of all with whom he associated. He will be remembered.

We thank the staff and caregivers at Crescent Gardens and from Home Instead for the help and attention they gave to Dad. You have a special mission to undertake every day. Your efforts were always noted and greatly appreciated.

Cremation has occurred. Dad requested that there not be a Service or Memorial.
