<div itemprop="description">Alex Soroka, age 90, of Tsawwassen, BC, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 26, 2016 surrounded by his family. Born in Lampman, Saskatchewan to Peter Soroka and Polly Konachowicz in 1926. Alex grew up on the family farm in Lampman, Sask and was the first in his hometown to attend university – a graduate from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Engineering (Mechanical). Alex enjoyed a successful career spanning four decades plus with Air Canada and Canadian Airlines – in addition to being heavily involved in municipal, provincial and federal politics. He served on the city councils of St. James, Winnipeg and Beaconsfield, QC and was instrumental in many areas of improvements including the construction of their recreational centres. Also in Tsawwassen, BC, Alex put forth to council the proposal for the extensive overhaul of the Winskill Aquatic facility that is enjoyed today. Alex’s accomplishment in the formation, development and function of the Augustine House in Delta, BC gave him great joy. And still the while, Alex went home to Saskatchewan for Spring Seeding and Fall Harvest into the early 1990’s. <br> <br>Alex a very loving, kind, passionate and dedicated man found great joy in family, community and his Church. In 1954, in Montreal he met and married the love of his life, Leona Mitchell. Alex and Leona have had a celebrated journey together of 62 years. Alex is survived by his wife Leona, sister Olga Lafrentz, children Colleen (Zach Cattiny), Alexis, Cecilia (Roy Semlacher), Alex Jr., Alison and Anne-Marie (Rick Callow), seven grandchildren Jessica, Berlin, Kyle, Tosh, Catherine, Catrina and Jack, as well as by his endearing nephews, nieces and cousins. Alex is predeceased by his parents Peter and Polly and brother Morrell. <br> <br>Leona and her family extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Haven House for their love and care of Alex over these past years. <br> <br>Visitation and prayers will be held on Monday, September 5, 2016 at 6:30pm – 8:00 pm at Delta Funeral Home, 5329 Ladner Trunk Road, Ladner, BC. The Celebration of Alex’s Life and Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 6th, 2016 at 11:00 am, Sacred Heart Parish, 3900 Arthur Drive, Ladner, BC with a reception to follow.
